Parents can support children on test days.
Healthy breakfast – research has shown us for years that students who eat a healthy breakfast do better in school. They are able to focus better and for longer periods of time. Our brain needs good food to do its best work.
• Plenty of rest – children need about 10 hours of solid sleep each night. Spring is a difficult time for this as longer days and more activities tend to keep students up later. (You can tell them the principal said theyneed to go to bed!)
• Support and encouragement. Your confidence in them translates into their confidence in themselves. They’ll do better when they know they can!
• Remind them that while these tests are important, they will not negatively affect them. I have heard students worry aloud that they will be held back in their grade if they don’t pass, or they won’t get into college if they don’t do well. These tests help us know how we are doing as a school and the results are useful in planning
